The Struggle is Real
This past week has been one of the most rewarding and most challenging thus far. We've struggled with cravings (PIZZA and WINE turn us on), sore muscles (the worst since the beginning) and simply finding the time to accomplish everything we need to and still be standing at the end. On the flip side, we hit some pretty significant weight goals (officially down 49 lbs and 37 lbs), we finally won at BINGO and we were actually able to jog the whole trail today between stations!
We've managed with the cravings much better than to be expected...but pizza and wine remain. We get over it though...Lauren's students had a pizza party and cupcakes, and my students had an ice-cream party this week. As teachers we are constantly offered things by students, teachers, and parents. We've learned to nicely accept their gifts and quickly give them away. I did receive some farm fresh eggs recently from a student with chickens... those I kept, because eggs are life. ๐Although we still have cravings for certain foods, we've found things that are enjoyable and healthy, so we consider those our little treats. This would include brussel sprouts, cottage cheese, hot sauce, berries, shredded chicken and feta (within reason). These things, when eaten, make us happy and cut down on those cravings.
SOOOREE Muscles! As you know...we met with Mark the trainer...4.times.this.week. Monday we jogged....Tuesday we were taken to the Exorcist Room...Let me go ahead and pause here to explain the Exorcist room...Have you ever seen the Exorcist? One of the last scenes where the priest falls down the stairs? Well, not only do you go up and down stairs the whole time you're there, but there is no air-conditioning, and you feel like you want to die between the stairs...walking lunges down the hall, and wall sits. Mark the Trainer also likes to make loud noises by hitting walls so we can't imagine what the poor pilates ladies outside of this tucked away back room are thinking. The Exorcist Room is no joke! ...Wednesday we flipped tires and killed our arms and Friday we did circuit training without rest. Let's just clarify...we have learned to stretch, ice, and heat. In the midst of it all, the sore muscles remind us of how hard we've worked, how far we've come, and how far we still need to go.
This week has been busy to say the
least but we have realized some important things because of it. This morning at church my pastor was talking about how sometimes we get so busy in doing things, we don't have time for what's really important. It struck me because Lauren and I both stay so busy that literally every single minute of our day is consumed. We even have our breaks and driving time filled with things to do, people to call, and lists to make. We both have talked about wanting to take time this summer and next year to do the things we want/need to do. This does not mean lying on our asses, but making less commitments to other things and more of a commitment to ourselves. We want to travel, focus in our training, serve others and find time to really spend with our friends and loved ones. We also have realized how important it is to prepare for the week. Our struggle with our diet has always been the weekends. We're busy, we forget, and even yesterday I forgot to eat between breakfast and lunch. Our goal is to start prepping for the weekends like we do for our weeks, set reminders, and just figure it out. We can't let the weekend kill our week. As I am typing this now, Lauren is prepping our veggies for the week. Having friends on the same page make things easier...
So now to the good stuff and what made this week one of the bests! Every Tuesday we go to bingo. It's free and fun! Although it does take place at our favorite bar, we ignore the offers of drinks and sip on our water. We have never actually won bingo until this week. We just like to hang out with friends and play. Well friends...we finally know what we've been training for...the MAD sprint from the outside patio to the back bar, jumping over chairs, and dodging people with full drinks in their hands, all the while screaming BINGOOOOO! Not to mention the sprints to answer the trivia question when O69 is called. Lauren and I amazingly both got bingo this week...want to know what all our efforts were for? Collectively we're the proud owners of 5 beer bottle openers, 1 Fireball hat (FAVORITE), 1 Crown bag, 1 Angry Orchard frisbee, 1 Coors Light koozie, and $20 of gift cards to the BAR! Can we use any of this...NO...did we still run people over...YES. Our mommas would be proud.
One of the best things about this week...we weighed in! We started the new "phase" of our diet 3 weeks ago and in that time we are both down 10 lbs! This is CRAZY guys! We laugh because people are constantly asking why we're doing what we're doing and not always understanding the decisions we've been making, but this.is.why. It's not just the weight though, it's the overall feeling of wellness and accomplishment. Our clothes are literally falling off (sorry for the frumpiness) and we have never felt better!!! We will be accepting all clothes donations 16 and under if you're cleaning our your closets! I'm sure many of you will understand that it's hard to see a change in yourself in the beginning, but for the first time this week, I think we finally noticed. The My Fitness Pal app that we use let us compare our pictures and it's wild...
After church today, we continued our newly founded tradition of heading off to the trails to be outside and get our fitness on. Our goal since we first went out there was to be able to run the trails and today we got a little closer. We jogged them, in between the stations that we go to (we'll do a full post about the trails soon enough). Alan (my husband) decided to join us and we had a lot of fun showing him around. We're all a little goofy if you haven't noticed...
